How Clorox is helping MuST support music in public schools

The Blue Sky Project: A Clorox Charity Collection is a charity music project sponsored by Clorox to benefit Music In Schools Today ("MuST"), a nonprofit that supports music programs in public schools around the San Francisco Bay Area.

While it’s not unusual for companies to receive letters about their advertising, sometime around 2005, Clorox began receiving an unusual number of letters and emails specifically about the music in several of their commercials. People loved the music, wanted to know where it came from and where they could get it. This was the birth of The Blue Sky Project.

With the Blue Sky Project: A Clorox Charity Collection, Clorox hopes to give back to people who have written in requesting the songs from their commercials and, more importantly, to encourage the dreams of today’s young musicians and help them live fuller, healthier lives.

Clorox will provide half of the purchase price (annual minimum donation of $10,000) of "The Blue Sky Project: A Clorox Charity Collection." The donation will benefit Music In Schools Today (MuST).

MuST is the San Francico Bay Area's answer to the crisis in music education. Despite extensive research indicating that music instruction supplies intellectual, emotional and physical components critical to children's development, music and arts programs are often the first victims of budget cuts. MuST combats this trend with a comprehensive set of programs that are resistant to budget slashing. MuST serves over 10,000 children and youth annually in schools and community centers, conducts research and development and advocates to restore music as an essential principle of pre-K through 12 education.
